ARLINGTON, TEXAS (TICKER) -- The Seattle Mariners try to end a three-game losing streak and keep the first-place Texas Rangers in sight tonight as the teams continue a three-game series.

Rusty Greer singled home Royce Clayton in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday, lifting the Rangers to a 7-6 victory.

Seattle is 1-3 on its 12-game road trip that precedes the opening of Safeco Field on July 15. The Mariners have lost five of seven meetings with the Rangers this season.

Seattle starts righthander Freddy Garcia (9-4, 4.37 ERA), who has the most wins this season among major league rookies. Garcia earned the distinction of winning the last game at the Kingdome, allowing two runs and five hits over five innings in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.

He also has pitched well away from home, going 3-0 in six road starts. Garcia allowed an unearned run and four hits over eight innings in a 4-1 victory at San Diego on June 6, then yielded two runs and six hits over eight frames in a 4-3 win at Detroit on June 17.

Texas has scored 39 runs during its four-game winning streak. The Rangers' seven-game lead over Seattle in the American League West is their largest since September 13, 1996, when they also led by seven.

The Rangers start Aaron Sele (7-6, 5.42), who hopes to avenge Sunday's loss in Seattle. The righthander yielded five runs -- four earned -- and eight hits over seven innings, dropping his career mark against the Mariners to 3-2.

The righthander has only won once in his last four starts, following a three-game winning streak from May 28-June 7. He has held opponents to two runs or less in four of his last six starts.

Rangers third baseman Todd Zeile is batting .435 (20-for-47) during an 11-game hitting streak.
